Project Description

The project involved the reconstruction of a section of Route 201, including the replacement of two deficient bridges carrying Route 201 over Route 434 and Route 201 over Vestal Road. Other major project elements included improvements to the safety and mobility of the adjacent Route 201/westbound Route 434 ramps, Route 201 to Vestal Road off ramp, and the widening of Vestal Road to accommodate a left turn between the Route 201 ramps.
The project also included new signals at the intersections of Vestal Road with Bunn Hill Road, the NB 201 on ramp, the SB Route 201 ramp to WB Route 434. Pedestrian improvements were implemented such as new sidewalks along Vestal Road and median treatments along Route 434 to discourage mid-block crossings. The traffic signal at the 434/Glenn Bartle Drive intersection was replaced, and the superstructure of an abandoned railroad bridge over Vestal Road was removed providing a more efficient route for truck traffic to Route 17.
Accelerated construction methods were used to minimize impacts Project members included Delta, Region 9 Planning, Design, Traffic Engineering & Safety, Structures, and Construction Groups, the Main Office Structures Group, BMTS, and the Citizens Advisory Committee.
