Kopernik Observatory & Science Center Park Renovation
Kopernik Observatory & Science Center Park Renovation
The Kopernik Observatory & Science Center and the Junior League of Binghamton partnered to build the Kopernik Science Park, a hands-on learning park in Vestal, NY. The park offers a place for visitors to experience math, science, engineering, and technology in a fun, playful, and safe environment. Delta was retained to prepare schematic design drawings and assist with the preparation of funding applications. The structures and activities in the park create an outdoor learning facility and STEM educational experience that increases awareness of opportunities in science and math through programs and play. Included in the structures are the following stormwater features: pervious pavement, a wet pond/constructed wetland, and a vegetated swale. Playground activities include an abacus, super moon climber, global motion spinner, rocketship climber, pulse table tennis, and more! Binghamton University Engineering donated the footbridge. The structures and activities in the park are incorporated into the classes offered at Kopernik and allow them to expand their current programs to sustain the facility.
