Frederick County Kanode Farm Park Development
Frederick County Kanode Farm Park Development
Frederick County Parks and Recreation (FCPR) intends on developing property in Thurmont, MD, which was conveyed to the county in 2017. The property was conveyed by Mr. Richard W. Kanode with the understanding that the property would be preserved in perpetuity for agricultural and equestrian uses. The County commissioned the development of a Master Plan for the property that was approved in May 2024.
The Richard W. Kanode Farm Park is intended to provide future educational and recreational programming related to agricultural and equestrian pursuits. The park will include various upgrades and improvements to existing farm buildings, parking, agricultural education, equestrian amenities, and trails. Due to funding constraints, the entire park cannot be built in a single phase.
The scope of phase 1 is intended to include a modified entrance at Stevens Road, a new access road, parking improvements, drop off areas, pedestrian walkways and trails, vehicular travel ways, building renovations,
open arena areas, hoop houses, garden plots, educational areas, and landscaping. Main pedestrian paths will be oil and stone, and ADA accessible. Equestrian trails will be either gravel or natural mowed turf. Site improvements for the Equestrian riding arenas, and trails are included in the planning.
