The Post Installation Inspection (PII), more commonly known as Pipe Video Review, is a process in which a newly installed reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) is filmed and any purported deficiencies are reported. PII is an industry-specific requirement for newly installed pipe and the pipes may be round or elliptical. The pipe is filmed and documented and then the Delta team reviews the film and documentation based on post installation standards to provide support to the manufacturer. In response to the PII report(s), an evaluation report is generated in accordance with the applicable standards to identify which issues, if any, may require remediation. While the inspection process is for all pipes, this evaluation process is tailored to RCP only. This service is offered for pipe manufacturers and installation contractors. The media can be received in various formats including CD or DVD, but electronic transfer is also available.

BENEFITS OF PII

  • Provides quality assurance (Q/A) of completed installation so that owners know the condition of the installed pipe
  • Provides confirmation of structural integrity and hydraulic capacity
  • Greatly reduces risk for unanticipated maintenance or replacement
  • Improves quality of installations
  • Reduces lifetime project cost
  • Aims to avoid costly and unnecessary repairs

THE FINAL REPORT DIFFERENTIATES BETWEEN
Non-Issues
These are typically aesthetic items or features reported during the
inspection (may include stains, watermarks, or scrapes).

Minor Issues

These items may or may not require remediation depending on
the severity and the governing standard. Examples include cracks,
infiltration, joint offsets, surface damage, etc. Autogenous healing
is also a consideration in this category.

Major Issues

Major issues are generally structural issues which require full
pipeline remediation or pipe replacement. Examples include
broken pipe, diagonal shear failures, or slabbing.

PII EVALUATION MAY BE BASED ON:

  • ASTM C76/C507
  • ASTM C1840
  • State/DOT Specifications
  • AASHTO LRFD Section 27
  • Industry standards and guidelines, such as those published by the ACPA
  • NASSCO PACP
  • Client-furnished standards
