Delta was contacted by King & King Architects of Syracuse to perform High Definition Laser Scanner Services and Professional Land Surveying Services at Le Moyne College as part of their “Master Plan” to show all infrastructure and improvements on the campus. Located in a residential neighborhood, Le Moyne College is a private Jesuit college with a 160 acre campus and an enrollment of over 3,500 undergraduate and graduate students.
Delta’s scope of services included performing approximately 250 high definition laser scans (HDS) of the campus and surrounding property, preparation of Point Cloud and preparation of a High Definition Laser Scan fly-through video.
The 2D mapping & 3D modeling of the campus site area and surrounding property, included all buildings, roadways, parking areas, sidewalks, trees, limits of wooded areas, athletic fields, along with spot grades at a 50 ft. maximum grid and contours at a one (1) ft. interval.
All site utilities were located and shown on mapping, including sanitary and storm structures, water, gas, and electric manholes and valves, rim elevations, invert elevations, and pipe sizes.
An added benefit of using HDS on projects like Le Moyne College is that it enables the design engineer to use Leica TruView high definition software. Simple to use over the web or with local files, Leica TruView software allows professionals to easily view and measure rich, laser scan point clouds without having to be an expert in laser scanning, CAD or 3D. Using a simple “panoramic” or “bubble” viewer approach, the design engineer or architect can see our High Definition Survey point clouds on their computer screen just as if they were standing right where the laser scanner captured the scan data, and can extract real 3D coordinates and accurately measure distances.
