This bridge carries State School Road over Wawayanda Creek on the grounds of the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility in Orange County, New York. The existing bridge is a historic cast-in place concrete arch bridge with stone veneer spandrel walls. Delta performed an initial condition inspection, prepared a project program report, performed the final bridge and approach roadway design, coordinated with private utilities, permit agencies and the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO), performed a hydraulic study, and provided bidding and construction support services.
The project rehabilitation included removal and resetting of the existing stone veneer on the spandrel walls, construction of cast-in-place gravity slabs, installation of new two rail bridge rail and approach rail, full depth roadway reconstruction, and minor concrete repairs to the arch. The construction work was performed under staged construction with a temporary traffic signal to allow the use of the existing bridge for maintenance and protection of traffic.
