City of Binghamton Peacemakers Plaza Revitalization

Peacemakers Plaza was part of the revitalization of over one-half mile of linear waterfront promenade along the Chenango River. This unused and non-functional space was creatively transformed into an active public plaza with performance stage, café spaces, and informational kiosks. The Peacemakers Plaza has been programmed with seasonal performances on the stage and rallies within the paved gathering space. A commissioned statue of Martin Luther King, Jr. was added in 2010.

Development of the adjacent commercial buildings followed with student housing and commercial venues on the lower level. A wonderful retrofit in the middle of downtown with brick pavers and lighting to match Court Street, and amenities to tie in other segments of the Promenade. Granite slabs were recycled from Kennedy Park at the base of the statue. The project was completed on-time and within budget.
