This project creatively transformed previously unused, non-functional space into an active public plaza with a performance stage, café spaces, and informational kiosks. Since the Plaza is located in the downtown area, design decisions included brick pavers and lighting to match Court Street with amenities that tie into other segments of the Promenade and granite slabs recycled from Kennedy Park at the base of the statue. It is brought to life by seasonal performances on the stage and rallies within the paved gathering space. A commissioned statue of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was added in 2010.
