These projects involved extensive renovation and refitting of hundreds of thousands of square feet of laboratory spaces, offices, and research and development spaces for BAE Systems after a serious flood had rendered their previous business location unusable. The newly renovated facilities house high-end manufacturing and precision testing equipment central to BAE’s business success.
The multiple renovations were progressed as design-build projects to expedite construction and occupancy phases. The design phases of these projects were executed with AutoDesk Revit design software in order to provide a complete Building Information Modeling (BIM) solution to the client. Delta performed the architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire alarm, fire protection, plumbing, and structural design for these projects.
As part of the architectural scope for each of these projects, Delta provided an overall code review, life safety plans for each level of each building, floor plans, roof plans, and elevations. The architectural services also included space programming for each floor to best fit the design of the space to the needs of the occupants.
The electrical scope of work for these projects included upgrades to the electrical service and distribution systems, provision of emergency power and standby power, interior lighting upgrades, security system, CCTV, paging and intercommunication, audio/visual equipment, and equipment hook-ups. The fire alarm system and equipment, initiation and detection devices, control panels, transponders, sub panels, and remote annunciator panel locations were also upgraded.
The mechanical scope of work for these projects included upgrading and specifying the appropriate HVAC equipment and chillers and pumps used for manufacturing processes. System design that met the rigorous air ventilation requirements of the manufacturing and testing operations was also necessary. Energy conservation and efficiency options were also assessed in each facility and alternatives were provided as needed.
Plumbing systems including the domestic water, laboratory gases, and reverse osmosis systems were also upgraded as needed per the requirements of each facility.
